he thought it might be necessary he introduced these local coils for a local effect, as I have stated. Examinations have been made by each successive board of trustees, [?] making that survey in the night time with a view to ascertain what their own judgment was concerning the need of more or less heat. I think parties must have been advocating the introduction of more heat by any means suitable, and in fact I know they had, and there seemed to be a difference of opinion about it. The superintendent was inclined to think there was heat enough, except as I have stated, for local purposes, and this he introduced local coils to meet. And as I have understood him he has all along felt that the introduction of more heat was unnecessary. Last fall when the orders were received from the board of trustees to put in the coils to carry the heat in the night, to put in the pipe to carry the [?] steam in the [?] to these coils, they came to me from the board of trustees, and they were carried out
