Q. You don't think your father ever intended to injure him do you A. No sir. Q. When you attempted to button up his coat or shirt did you never see a button on either of them A. When he has had his breast open and I closed up his shirt and his coat I never found buttons to do it with. Q. No buttons at all on his coat A. No sir, none that would come round his throat or on his breast that would protect his chest Q. Did you find any buttons at all on his coat A. I don't think I ever did more than once or twice. I might have occasionally found a button low down Q. What became of the buttons he used to have A. I don't know. Q. All these various coats without any buttons A. I don't know. When I have taken pains to notice him I have never found a button, whether he had a different coat or the same, whenever he has attracted my attention.
