To the Senate and House of Representatives. I have received from the governor of South Carolina a Report and Resolutions, adopted by the Legislature of that State, in relation to the institution of domestic slavery, and the proceedings of the abolitionists in the non slave holding States, which, in compliance with his request, I lay before the two branches of the Legislature for their considerations.

To the Senate and House of Representatives. I lay before the two branches of the Legislature for their consideration the Report of St. Col. Long as the Topographical Engineers of the United States on a Reconnaissance for a Rail Road from the Coast of Maine to Quebec, together with a sketch of the Country traversed, by the routes treated of in the Report, and which is intended as an accompaniment to that document.

Description: The journal of the House of Representatives documents the proceedings in the chamber, including actions taken on bills, petitions and reports from committees read, and votes taken. The journals are not transcripts and therefore do not include floor speeches that are found in the modern Legislative Records.
