258. Bill - An Act additional to an Act to organize govern & discipline the Militia of this State, came from the Senate, that body refusing to adopt the amendment of the House on sheet B and pass the same to be engrossed as amended on sheet C. D. And the House recede & pass the same to be engrossed in concurrence.

Bill - An Act to incorporate the Portland Granite Company - - An Act to incorporate the Pleasant River Iron and Steel Company - - An Act to incorporate the New York and Hallowell Granite Association- were read severally 1st & 2d time & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.

The Committee on Manufactures to which was referred, An order directing them to inquire into the expediency of providing a law regulating the size and quality of Brick, reported a reference of the subject to the Judiciary - and the House accepted the Report in concurrence.

Resolve laying a tax on the several Counties in this State, was read a second time & passed to be engrossed. Sent up for concurrence.

Bill - An Act to incorporate the Penobscot Mill and Manufacturing Company, was read a 3d time and passed to be engrossed in concurrence.

Petition of Andrew Masters and others in aid of the petition of Ira Crocker and others - was read & referred to the Committee who have this subject under consideration. Sent up for concurrence.
