57. Communications were received from Jabez Bradbury, Joseph Johnson, William Dunn & Seth Labaree signifying their acceptance as Councillors.
A message was received from the Senate by Mr Trafton their Secretary proposing a Convention of the two Branches at 11.oclock today for the purpose of qualifying Jabez Bradbury, Joseph Johnson, William Dunn & Seth Labaree Councillors elect - and the House concurred and the Clerk acquainted the Senate therewith.
On motion by Mr Holmes of Alfred, Ordered, That Messrs Holmes of Alfred, Hamlin of Hampden and Coombs of Waterville be a Committee to inquire into the expediency of employing an Assistant Clerk of the House.
Petition of George Downes & others to be incorporated for the purpose of establishing an Academy at Calais - was read & referred to the Committee on Literature & Literary Institutions. Sent up for concurrence.
Petition of Alfred Johnson Junr & others for a Rail Road from Belfast to Solon & thence to the Canada line - was read & referred to the Committee on Rail Roads & Canals. Sent up for concurrence.
