Mr Holmes was charged with a message to the Senate to inform them of the organization of the House by the election of Jonathan Cilley Speaker & James L Child Clerk.

Mr. Perkins of Kennebunkport was charged with a similar message to the Governor.

On motion by Mr. Potter of Augusta, Ordered that the Rules & Orders of the Last Legislature be adopted for the government of the House until new Rules & orders shall be adopted.

An order came from the Senate appointing Messrs Clark, Benson & Kelsey with such as the House may join a Committee to examine the returns of votes for Governor for the current political year & report thereon and the House concurred & Messrs Smith of Westbrook, Bodwell of Shapleigh, Garcelon of Lewiston, Lake of Bucksport, Foster of Pembroke, Wells of Hallowell and Shaw of Orono were joined.

On motion by Mr. McIntire of Parsonsfield, Ordered, That a committee be appointed to contract with some suitable persons to perform the duties of Messenger & Page of the House for the current political year - and Messrs McIntire of Parsonsfield, Warren of Durham & Maine of Dearborne were appointed said committee.

The Secretary of State came in & informed the House that he had by order of the Governor laid upon the table of the President of the Senate, the returns of votes given in, in the several towns & plantations in this State at the last annual election for Governor.
