The Committee on Engrossed Bills reported as truly copied from the original "Bill to incorporate the Portland Whale Fishing Company" and the was passed to be enacted.
On motion of Mr. Cobb, ordered that the Secretary of the Senate be directed to notify Roscoe G. Greene that he has been elected Secretary of State by a Convention of the two Houses of the Legislature for the current political year.
The annual Report of the State Treasurer, exhibiting the state of the finances was read and laid upon the table.
On motion of Mr. Bradbury, Ordered, that the Joint Standing Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to enquire into the expediency of altering or repealing an additional act, directing the method of laying out, and making provisions for the repair and amendment of highways, and providing for the appointment of County Commissioners, passed March 15, 1831, or to provide by law for an appeal from the decisions of the Court of County Commissioners, made under such limitations as they may deem expedient.
On motion of Mr. Cobb, ordered, that a message be sent to the Governor and Council, informing them that Roscoe G. Greene is elected Secretary of State; which message was delivered by the Secretary.
