The Convention was called to order by Mr Spring of Biddeford and Edward Russell Esq of North Yarmouth requested to officiate as Chairman during the organization of the House.
Messrs Williams of Augusta, Quinnam of Wiscasset, Cobb of Durham, Spring of Saco, & Dascomb of Bloomfield were appointed a committee to receive the credentials of the members and ascertain if a quorum be present, who having attended to the duty assigned them, reported that a quorum was present.
Mr Ruggles of Thomaston was requested to notify the members of the Senate that a quorum of the House of Representatives was then assembled in the Representatives Chamber, and to invite their attendance forthwith at that place, in order that both branches may be there qualified.
The members of the Senate came in & had seats assigned them.
Mr Dane was charged with a message to the Governor to inform him that a quorum of both branches is assembled in the Representatives Chamber & ready to be qualified - who returned and informed the House he had delivered the Message and that the Governor was pleased to say he would forthwith attend in the Representatives Hall & qualify the members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives according tot the Constitution.
Description: The journal of the House of Representatives documents the proceedings in the chamber, including actions taken on bills, petitions and reports from committees read, and votes taken. The journals are not transcripts and therefore do not include floor speeches that are found in the modern Legislative Records.
