 [January 20] [Committee on poor Debter[Debtor] law] Order of the House that Messr. Cummings, Merrill and Patten be a Committee with such as the Senate may join, to consider the expediency of revising the Law allowing persons to discharge themselves from Prison by taking the poor debtors oath; and whether such law is not in principle a violation of the Constitution of this State, came up for concurrence was concurred, and Messrs. Dunlap and Read were joined.
[Bill] Bill to incorporate the owners and proprietors of East meeting House in Machias, passed to be engrossed in the House, came up for concurrence, was read once & committed, and tomorrow at 10 Oclock assigned for 2nd Reading.
[Addition to a Committee] Mr. Dunn was then added to the Joint Standing Committee on State Lands.
[Committee on inland Bills of Exchange] On motion of Mr. Wheeler ordered that Messrs. Wheeler and Witham, with such as the House may join, be a Committee to consider whether any addition be requisite to an Act regulating damages on Inland Bills of Exchange passed by the Legislature of this State, Feb. 28 1821, with leave to report by Bill or otherwise. Sent down for concurrence, and came up concurred, and Messrs. Adams, Ruggles and Pond were joined.
[Report on Petition] Mr. Usher from the Committee on the Petition of Elias Stowell and others, reports an order of notice which is read and recommitted. Sent down for concurrence. Came up concurred.
[Resolves] Resolve in favour of Jonathan Nelson and Resolve in favor of John Carlton 2nd, was severally read once and committed, and tomorrow at 10 Oclock assigned for a 2nd Reading.
