69. Counsellors - qualified Agreeably to assignment the two branches met in con-vention in the Representatives chamber at 11 o'clock, when Mark Harris, Isaac Lane, James McLellan, and Ebenezer Williams Counsellors elect came in and took and subscribe the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify them for the duties of their office. The convention then proceeded to the election of a Treasurer of State — The whole number of ballots given in was 142-necesary to a choice. 72 Joseph C Boyd Esq the late Treasurer had 136 and was duly elected — The senators then withdrew.
Committee - on law [illegible]-ting the tender of money K An order came from the Senate appointing Messrs Poor and Bond with such s the House may join a committee to take into consideration the expediency of passing a law by which defendants in all civil actions may have the privilege of tendering to the [illegible] of his attorney the amount of debt + legal cost which may have already arisen, at any time previous to the entry of the actions and thereby stop any further proceedings and costs with leave to report by Bill or otherwise — The order was read in the House and Messrs Gray of Bowdoinham, Fox of Parsonsfield and Sheppard of Surrey were joined.
Bill - United Lodge Bill from the Senate to incorporate the master, wardens and members of United Lodge — was read a 1st + 2nd time and tomorrow at 9 oclock assigned for a 3d reading.
