An order came from the Senate for concurrence, directing the committee on the Judiciary to consider the expediency of increasing the compensation of witnesses in the Judicial Courts of this State with power + the House concurred.
Bill additional to an act to incorporate the Proprietors of North Turner Bridge, was read 1st + 2nd times + tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a 3rd reading.
On motion of Mr. Kilby of Freeport Ordered that Messrs Kilby of Eastport, Crane of Hope + Moody of Minot be a committee with such as the Senate may join to inquire into the expediency of authorizing towns in this State at their annual meeting to pass votes to tax the owners of dogs in their several towns - read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion of Mr Adams of Portland, Ordered, that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire and report on the expediency of authorizing the town of Portland to appoint an additional number of EngineMen to the Hydraulic Engine. read and passed. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion of Mr Jewett of Bowdoinham, Ordered that the committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of passing a law, providing for the attachment and sale of rights of redemption to redeem real estate set off on Execution read and passed. Sent up for con currence.
On motion of Mr Ames of Clinton, Ordered that the joint standing committee on the militia + military affairs be instructed to inquire into the expediency of revising, correcting and amending the several acts now in force
