On motion by Mr Humphrey of Gray
Ordered, That the Clerk cause a Book case to be erected on each side of the Speaker between the windows not to exceed eight inches in depth at the expense of the State.
Bill - An Act to incorporate the Proprietors of the Hampden House, reported by the Committee on the petition of Enoch Brown & others, was read 1st & 2d time and tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a third reading.
Petitions of Freemans Bank for an increase of capital -
- " Ticonic Bank for an increase of capital -
- " Thomaston Bank for the same
- " Oliver Buckley & others for a Bank at Westbrook -
were severally read & referred to the Committee on Banks and Banking. Sent up for concurrence
On motion by Mr Tiffany of Sidney
Ordered That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law that no town shall be liable to a presentment or Indictment by any grand jury in consequence of a defect in any road unless the Complainant or Complainants shall first give the Selectmen seasonable notice that such road or roads are out of repair & are unsafe & dangerous for teams and carriages to pass thereon. Sent up for concurrence
