Met according to adjournment.
Petition of Sewall Cram to be admitted to practice Law as an Attorney -
was read & referred to Messrs Bodwell of Shapleigh, Eastman of Strong, Cunningham of Swanville with such as the Senate may join
On motion by Mr Eastman of Strong,
Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to inquire into the expediency of providing by law for remuneration to individuals for damage by them sustained in consequence of riots or mobs, by the town or city in which the same may occur, by a tax assessed on the Polls of its inhabitants when it cannot be collected of the voters themselves. Sent up for concurrence.
On motion of Mr Cogswell of Berwick
Ordered, That the Committee on the Militia be instructed to enquire into the expediency of amending the Militia Law passed March 8th 1834 so as to exempt all privates liable to do military duty above the age of 25 years from the performance of any other militia service than that required on the day of annual Inspection - and also further to amend so as to provide for the compensation of each Officer & Private who actually perform duly on days of company drill & review at the rate of two dollars per day for each officer and one dollar each day for each private. Sent up for concurrence.
